The Tents
Premiering this weekend in New York: The Tents, a documentary chronicling the history and evolution of New York Fashion Week—from its humble beginnings to the blowout Mercedes Benz Fashion Week incarnation it is today. Featuring interviews with designers and front row fixtures such as Betsey Johnson, Carolina Herrera, Donna Karan, Isaac Mizrahi, Tommy Hilfiger, Zac Posen, Glenda Bailey, Hal Rubenstein, Nina Garcia, and Suzy Menkes, the doc covers the creation of an organized fashion week by the CFDA back in 1993 to the transition of ownership to IMG to present day.
“Looking at the success of recent fashion documentaries such as The September Issue and Valentino: The Last Emperor, there is clearly a burgeoning interest in behind-the-scene stories about the fashion industry,” says The Tents Director James Belzer. “With a diverse range of voices, we take the audience on an exciting journey through NY fashion history. The term “The Tents” now resonates as a metaphor for the fashion show venue itself as well as the overall fashion week experience.”
If you're in [NYC] and free on Saturday night, check out the preview of The Tents ahead of its wider release this September. The Tents will debut at NewFest, the New York LGBT Festival on July 23rd at 6 p.m. at the SVA Theater Tickets are $14 and can be purchased here.
